I'll translate: -circus artist: "Bravo! You're the best clown student I ever had!" ...."This actually was a real accident.."-foreign language: "...He learned to speak Mandarin..."-food design: "I call it ... potatoe!"-lab animal care: Can't be translated...it's a language bound joke.

These are illustrations I have made for a large educational publishing company, for a pilot. In the meanwhile I have illustrated many many more images for them. But since secrecy statements are tight and the time between illustrating and publishing can be up to two years it can take a while before I can show the work. Anyway, these were created in june 2010.

Today the new 'Albert Heijn' store campaign starts and it's all about animals. So ofcourse, Doodle.nl pitched for this one through advertising agency TBWA and agent Artbox. Unfortunately my work didn't make it through the finals, but I'm still excited to show you the results here.

New 'Junglefun' for Scouty Magazine

Here's a new comic page I made for Scouty. It's in Dutch, sorry. The idea is that Mowgli is painting, Baloo says he doesn't like it that much, Mowgli gets upset, Shere-Kan hears him yelling and thinks he is weakened, goes for the attack and than gets scared stiff by Mowgli's painting. Baloo's conclusion; A painting that impresses Shere-Kan THAT much has to be a good one.

Jungle book for Scouting

More than seventy (70!!) illustrations were made in the past three months for the new Jungle Book work- and storybooks that were created for the Dutch Scouts. Together with YoungCrowds, interjanet and writer Niels Rood we killed a gruesome deadline and the result, if I may say so, is great. Here are some of the illustrations and parts of the process. 3)Sketch process for the design of Baloo. My initial plan was to base the design on the authentic sloth bear, but the client wanted it to look 'more like a bear'.

Sneak preview; fearless (jungle book)

This week illustration friday's topic is fearless. A good moment to give away a sneak preview of the project I've been working on for the past three months. It's an illustration for 'Jungle book', which I re-illustrated completely for the Dutch scouts.

It's still a tough job getting the style to be consistent. Mostly because this is a project that has to be done in my spare time, so the time in between making these illustrations is longer than I'd like. But hey, at the same time that is a good sign, right?

These are made for Pica Educatief, a publisher that makes books for elementary schools. The story I illustrated was about a boy that is sad because his snowpuppet melts, but in his dreams he finds out that the puppet doesn't dissapear. It just stays in a different place for a while. Now what would that really mean? ;)
